You may have heard about Acadia National Park, but have you seen it from a wanderer’s perspective?
Greetings from Acadia!
I have recently relocated to Mount Desert Island along Maine‘s Atlantic coast, the home of Acadia National Park. You probably already know that from the photos I have been posting on Facebook and Instagram. I thought since I have been here for a month and finally have some, albeit slow, internet, it is time for some updates from my summer residence.
First thing first, Acadia National Park’s Park Loop Road, a must-see for every visitor. It only covers a small portion of Acadia, but I figured it would be a good starting point on this journey.
There are tons of things to see along the Park Loop Road. This is just a sample of what you may find in this wonderland. Photos have been taken on multiple occasions, which will explain some of the lack of green in some of the photos. Spring is a late comer to Maine.
Beaver Dam Pond is awfully photogenic.
The famous Sand Beach, the only natural sand beach on the ocean. Sand beaches are very rare along Maine’s rocky coastline.
The cliffs along Otter Point. I’ve never seen an otter there, but there must have been some at some point.
Otter Cove used to reach further inland, but the park loop road cut the top of the cove off from the ocean, killing the livelihood of the towns people of Otter Creek. Otter Creek happens to be completely surrounded by the park. Not many make their living as fishermen anymore.
I just thought this looked pretty.
Little Hunters Beach is a sort of hidden cobblestone beach off the park loop road. There isn’t even a sign for it on the road, just a random pull off. I figured they wouldn’t construct a pull off there if it didn’t lead to something cool. So, I stopped and found this perfection.
The famous Jordan Pond, where people stop at the Jordan Pond house to eat popovers and buy souvenirs.
Time to head up Cadillac Mountain, the tallest point on the eastern seaboard. On the way you can find this gorgeous view of Eagle Lake and Mount Desert Island.
Views from Cadillac can be stunning if the weather permits. It often gets too foggy to see anything from the top. This view is toward the southwest. The islands you see are the Cranberry Islands, which at some point probably had some wild cranberries.
Looking toward the east now over Frenchman’s Bay. The little town down there is the famous town of the island, Bar Harbor. Super touristy.
Looking northeast towards the top of Frenchman’s Bay. Just so pretty.
Well, this is my first update from Acadia, and sure to be not the last.
Check out my next update where I visit Bangor, Maine!
