Greetings from the Grand Canyon

A new adventure begins at the amazing Grand Canyon.

A little more than a month ago I relocated to the famous Grand Canyon in Northern Arizona. I took about a week to drive here from Michigan, following a lot of Route 66 in the process.

It’s been a crazy month, hence the lack of updates. I have finally settled in here and am ready for some new explorations of Arizona and beyond. I haven’t done much hiking yet (still adjusting to the elevation) but I have explored the top of the South Rim. So, without further ado, the Grand Canyon.

My first view of the Grand Canyon at Mather Point. Pretty impressive.

Another popular viewpoint is Hopi Point.

And that is why I couldn’t breathe for a couple of weeks. That sign wasn’t there the next time I visited which is weird.

A little, not so hidden secret is Shoshone Point. It is unmarked. The view is great. It’s a bit hazy from the prescribed burn on the North Rim. That was put out by a rain/snow storm a couple of weeks ago now.

The infamous Duck on a Rock.

Cedar Mountain, a dormant volcano in the eastern part of the park. Northern Arizona is full of dormant volcanoes.

The Desert View Watchtower is at the last viewpoint on the eastern side of the park. It was built in the 1930s and made to look old.

It snowed a couple of weeks ago and the canyon looked fantastic.

Lovely snow. It melted in no time at all.

Hopi Point looking much different with the clouds.

Hermit’s Rest used to be an old rest stop for tourists that rode horses or mules from Grand Canyon village along what is now Hermit Road. It was built to look old as well and today, there is a gift shop and sandwich shop there.

And there are ravens everywhere here.

Check out my next update where I actually do a little bit of hiking!
