An interesting name for some unique rock formations.
Elephant Rocks State Park is a weird name for a state park, but OK. It’s a cool small state park in the Ozarks of Missouri with a giant pink granite slab you can climb all over. It once was quarry, now it’s a fun park to explore.
Jana Irving First thing that you see on the path that rings the granite outcropping is a pile of boulders. Not too exciting yet.
Jana Irving The path winds around and through the boulders.
Jana Irving A bit more interesting.
Jana Irving It looks like an old-timey airplane without a propeller.
Jana Irving The old quarry.
Jana Irving Piles and piles of pink rocks.
Jana Irving This is definitely a quarry.
Jana Irving You can see the jackhammer marks on some.
Jana Irving Getting closer to the top.
Jana Irving The only answer I have to this is that it’s probably from erosion.
Jana Irving The trail continues.
Jana Irving Life will always find a way.
Jana Irving It keeps getting more interesting.
Jana Irving Really cool!
Jana Irving Reminds me of a bit of Acadia, but pinker.
Jana Irving Just a bunch of giant boulders.
Jana Irving Lots of exposed granite.
Jana Irving It’s a really pretty area.
Jana Irving At the top now. There were tadpoles in that little puddle of water.
Jana Irving This is a pretty cool park.
Jana Irving Look at that tree!
Jana Irving Really giant boulders. I still don’t get why they call it Elephant Rocks.
Jana Irving Never mind.
Elephant Rocks State Park was a fun park, simply because they let you climb all over the rocks. I kind of felt like a kid again and I only almost died once. Wear some good hiking shoes before going, though.
In my next post, I will be covering more about the Ozarks. Like what are the Ozarks and why it is more than just Arkansas.
Check out my next update where I will be climbing on Missouri’s tallest mountain!
